References
It's perfectly normal to ask for references when carrying out any trade.
I always ask for references, and always offer mine. It isn't at all insulting - I want people to
feel they're safe trading with me.
Every established trader should be happy and prepared to supply references
on demand. If someone seems insulted by a request for references, warning
bells should ring.
The best way to ask for references is to ask the trader directly. They
should be able to supply you with the email addresses and online identities
of people who can verify that they are honest.
Another good way is to get eBay or Yahoo! references - but check that
they're the same person by emailing them through eBay or Yahoo! and take
a look to see if they're references for buying, selling, or a mixture.
Make sure that the person you email is not a different person to the
trader! Look for names of people on boards, and check that the email given
to you is actually theirs.
If you are at all unsure, seek further advice. There are trader feedback
boards at all the main MLP boards.
And ask politely.
