Advice if you have been scammed
What to do if you think you have been scammed
First, try and contact the trader/seller. Most problems can be sorted
out at an early stage.
Second, try posting on trader feedback boards to see whether anyone knows
information which might explain a delay. People's computers *do* crash,
people get ill, and have transport problems.
While traders should do their utmost to keep people informed
if something happens, it isn't always possible. But someone, somewhere
might know.
Third, try some damage limitation. Can you cancel a cheque? Can you
file mail fraud charges? Seek advice from others via messageboards to see what you can do.
Advice if you fear you have been scammed
Collect as much information about the potential scammer as possible. This
might include
email addresses
home addresses
home phone numbers
eBay/Yahoo! id
online id (eg ezboard id, LiveJournal account)
ISP address
Write to them. Write to Mr/Mrs (surname) at their address - you might
get their parents. Phone them up. Phone them up at 4am.
Advice No.1 from Heart Throb: "I also have a bit of advice to anyone who
gets cheated: Simply get mail fraud papers, fill them out towards the
person who cheated you, attach what evidence you have, then make a copy
and send it the the person, or parents of the person who cheated you in
an unmarked envelope(that way the cheater can't intercept it)also print
out a copy of the punishments as a result of mail fraud(www.usps.org)
and mail it along with the fraud papers to the person. If you don't recieve
their end of the trade or your end back simply submit the forms. Then
they'll wish they had returned your stuff when they face potential jail
time and fines."
